Event Details

The exhibition is an eye-catching selection of forty paintings from the Rijksmuseum’s collection, supplemented with works from the museum’s own collection.

Four centuries of art with water in the leading role as friend and foe. In addition, the exhibition makes a link with the future. What will happen when the sea level rises 6 metres and what will the Netherlands look like in 200 years’ time?
In 2017, the Rijksmuseum and five city museums in the Netherlands will collaborate for eight years on an ambitious series of travelling exhibitions. The four elements earth, water, air and fire are central to this and have been translated into the exhibition series Low Countries, Cool Waters, High Skies and Hot Fires.

The Markiezenhof organises a full programme of side activities around the travelling exhibition. For example, special guided tours are organised Samen kijken = Looking together = Seeing more, lectures and workshops. Keep an eye on the website for the current programme.

For more information about Koele Wateren, the exhibition series and the programme of each museum, a separate website has been set up: www.schattenuithetrijks.nl.
